2022 Whistler Vineyard Strix Estate Pinot Noir, West Sonoma Coast
Strix is made from a block selection of 65% Pinot Noir clone 667, 25% 777 and 10% Pommard, all planted in 2003. The vinification included 25% whole clusters (with stems) to provide complexity and elegance. Here are the notes from James Suckling: “Black cherries, red berries and lavender followed by tobacco leaves and ground cloves with baking spices and kola nuts. Medium-bodied yet creamy on the palate with compressed fine-grained juicy tannins with bright acidity. Precisely framed and polished. Zesty and flavorsome wine showing great persistence until the end.”
